Destination London has been a long road for the Haro team, and when the smoke cleared, Khalen Young and Nic Long would head to London, while team mate, Brooke Crain, would just barely miss the cut.
It all came down to Birmingham, England, at the UCI World Championships. Points were close enough that Brooke, Arielle, or Alise Post would be able to win the overall USA Cycling Power Rankings for the first Olympic Berth for the US Women's team. After dominating all of her opening rounds, Brooke went down hard in her quarter final, ending wth a severe shoulder injury and sidelined to witness her Olympic dreams slip away. That day, USA's Alise Post also hit the pavement in the women's final, while Arielle Martin went on to get 4th, and secure her spot on the Olympic team.
With Arielle winning the first Olympic Berth, Alise received the "Discretionary Pick" for her win at the 3rd round of UCI World Cup's in Holland. Brooke, coming just short, was left with the alternate spot, where she would fill in if either Arielle or Alise were to get injured.
Monday, during the last training session before the US team departed for London, Arielle lost her chain at max speed, and has remained in the hospital ever since. USA Cycling released an official press release that she's been withdrawn from Olympic competition, and our girl steps up to the plate. All the girls have been plagued with injury on this Olympic rollercoaster ride, and timing has been everything. We wish Arielle Martin a speedy recovery.
Along with Brooke will be team mate Nic Long, and Austrailia's Khalen Young representing us in London. 3 for 3. We are proud of you guys!
